When I was invited to give a TEDx talk at Grand Canyon University I knew immediately what I want to speak about. Hypnosis of course, but I specifically wanted to address the folks that think that they can’t be hypnotized because of what they’re missing out on.
Often I meet people that are convinced that they can’t be hypnotized even though they’ve never even tried it. There are usually two types – one group is disappointed too because they’d love to be able to be hypnotized. The others have a smug attitude and think that they are somehow superior in intellect, and discernment or they say they don’t believe in it and so they just “know” that hypnosis won’t work for them.
Saying you can’t be hypnotized because you don’t believe in it is like saying you don’t believe in gravity so you can’t fall down. Good luck with that. You can’t just “not believe” in a certain natural phenomenon and then not be affected by it. Hypnosis, like gravity, is a natural phenomenon. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and focus that can be used to help people overcome problems, improve their lives, and achieve their goals. It is often misunderstood and many people believe that they have to believe in hypnosis for it to work, but this is not true. (Although, in certain situations like one of my comedy hypnosis shows the subjects are not necessarily relaxed. In fact, they are quite active. However, in the end, most will say that they feel, “very relaxed.”)
Here’s why you don’t have to believe in hypnosis to experience hypnosis: When you are hypnotized, you are not asleep or unconscious. Instead, you are in a state of focused attention, similar to when you are daydreaming or when you are so engrossed in a book or movie, or video game that you forget about everything else around you. In this state, you are more open to suggestions and more likely to accept new ideas and make positive changes in your life.

So, even if you don’t believe in hypnosis, it will still work for you. This is because hypnosis is not about believing in something, it’s about being open to change and willing to try new things. If you are willing to listen to the hypnotist’s suggestions and give hypnosis a chance, it can help you make positive changes in your life. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Sometimes I’ll work with a hypnotherapy client and afterward they’ll say, “I didn’t even think this (hypnosis) would work.” After a comedy hypnosis show subjects will sometimes say this as well.
One of the great things about hypnosis is that it can help with a wide range of problems and issues. For example, it can be used to help people overcome phobias, quit smoking, lose weight, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve their sleep. It can also help with things like increasing self-confidence, improving sports performance, and even relieving pain. It can even help to change your mindset about money and what you are capable of personally and professionally. I’ve helped clients and even entire sales teams to increase sales. Sometimes so dramatically that I hesitate to share the percentage of increased sales because it sounds unbelievable.
If you’re not using hypnosis, you could be missing out on a great opportunity to improve your life. Even if you’re not sure if it will work for you, it’s worth giving it a try. Many people have found hypnosis to be a very helpful and effective tool for making positive changes in their lives, and it might work for you too. And if you’re in business, you absolutely need to look at this powerful too because your competitors are. I know, I’ve worked with them.
